A new kind of computer for gaming. As the PC lacks any kind of special hardware or RISC CPUs, this new computer will take what's best from the great computers such as the Amiga, the Atari, the Acorn RISCPC, the X68000, the FM-Towns, the Sinclair, the MSX, and others, to create a PC successor, which should be called the XC, or the Extended computer.
This computer will have multiple multi-core RISC CPUs, since RISC chips are faster than comparable CISC processors, use less heat, and have a smaller die size than CISC CPUs, saving silicon. Unlike the PC, but similar to the great gaming computers of the past, this system will also have built in hardware, such as multiple video decoding, graphics, sound, and physics processors. Both the media processors and the CPUs should have memory placed on them, (package on package) to save system memory.
Other peripherals are: built in wireless networking and motion sensors for motion controllers, multiple 3D sticks, and 3D controllers.
As this system is the PC's successor, it will also have expansion cards, and can use several video cards to use the system as a media generator, and the use can link several main boards to increase the power of the arcade gaming workstation.
This system will use multiple disk configurations, such as SSD's. flopticals, media disk changers, and flash drives.
The arcade gaming workstation must have multiple screen capabilities for making video walls, and games several screens large, such as Taito's Darius Burst.
Finally, this arcade gaming workstation will have multiple built in Flash ROM chips on the main board, for the firmware, the OS, applications, and emergency storage. An embedded OS is immune to hard disk crashes, and you don't need to wipe out the hard disk to reinstall the OS. A Flash ROM for the OS is also faster than a hard disk, and also is less likely to corrupt from a date misread.
This arcade gaming workstation should connect to TVs, monitors, and TV monitors, to replace the game console. There should also be pocket computers to replace the hand held console. There is no reason to use a limited use console when a computer is better.
The new game consoles have built in Flash ROM for storage. Nintendo's version has a triple-core IBM Power CPU, and an iPad-like controller, with a touch screen and controller buttons. Sony and Microsoft's consoles, have X86 CPUs, with an additional ARM CPU, to run the system while on standby, to save electricity. The Nintendo console also has an ARM CPU. The other consoles can link to phones and tablets. This is not to say consoles are better, but only to reveal the arcade gaming workstation's competition.
NVIDIA's Project Shield, has a four-core ARM Tegra processor. The arcade gaming workstation should include ARM processors, and even Zilog DSP's, (Digital Signal Processors) so it can process digital media. The arcade gaming workstation should also have these innovations to best the game consoles.
Hopefully, this arcade gaming workstation will destroy the unecological game console, which you throw out after every few years. Computers are more useful than the evil console, and are better for society. Consoles should disappear, and computers should take their place.
